Next To You Life Volume 2 Claudia Y Burgoa Books

The first book, ‘Where Life Takes You’ is told from Becca’s point of view. This book is told from Dan’s point of view.

Dan thought he and Becca had it all and were about to get married, he knows she has issues but he says they can work them out. But the next morning he finds a letter, telling him she has left, please don’t look for her, he should date and maybe find the love of his life and forget about her, and how he deserves better than her with her baggage. Dan is devastated, furious, and goes a little crazy. His first instinct is to wipe any traces of her from his life, including torching her car.

Becca had been borderline suicidal and knew she needed to escape from Dan’s controlling tendencies, plus she had many issues to work through. She checks in to a clinic in Switzerland for a total immersion therapy.

Slowly, over months, they write letters back and forth. He wants to get back the love of his life, she needs her space. It is a real struggle for both of them.

I liked Becca more in this book, although it annoyed me that she still took everything he offered financially and never really stood on her own. I actually laughed at Dan a few times, the way he wanted her back in his bed….after how many dates?

Next To You Life Volume 2 Claudia Y Burgoa Books Reviews

This is the follow up book to Where Life Takes You, which for the record, was an amazing book. You should definitely pick that one up at least. The ending to that book was killer and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. So naturally I was ecstatic when the author contacted me and asked me if I would like to read this…. Um yes please! I actually read this book quite a while ago and I guess I somehow forgot to write the review. So this is probably going to be a shorter review since everything is not fresh in my mind.

This book is told from Daniel’s POV, whereas the first book was told from Rebecca’s POV. Thankfully, this picks up where the first book left off. Right after Rebecca runs off and leaves only a letter as an explanation. After learning that Rebecca has left Daniel goes into a downward spiral. Naturally Daniel is pissed and decides he needs to be drunk. He’s so upset that he decides that burning her car sounds like a good plan. He gets rid of her apartment, her clothes, everything. It is weeks before he hears anything from her.

They share letters back and forth to each other and Rebecca tells Daniel that he needs to work on himself while she is gone. I love the letters part of the book, not emails but actual letters. That ads something special to the story. I loved reading about Rebecca really trying to better herself and learning more about Daniel’s past.

This duology was really fantastic and I am so glad that I stumbled across the first one. I highly recommend picking it up if you are into new adult romances!

Book Review ~ ‘Next to You’ by Claudia Y. Burgoa ~ 5 Stars!

This was a stunning conclusion to Daniel and Rebecca’s heartbreaking yet beautiful story. I was dying to get my hands on this book ever since I finished the first one, and knowing that it would be from Daniel’s point of view, only made me want it even more. I loved seeing the first book from Rebecca’s narrative, so was intrigued to see the difference in how Daniel and Rebecca had viewed their relationship.

‘Next to You’ really packed the emotional punch, and there were many times when I just had to put my kindle down and remind myself that it was only fiction as I could feel my heart break for the pain the characters went through. Yet, I was determined to persevere, as I became so entwined with the characters and just had to finish their journey with them.

I grew to adore Daniel even more in this book as we start to see the perfect facade he presented to the world in ‘Where Life Takes You’ couldn’t be further from the truth. Inside he is broken, desperate and intensely traumatised from his own past, something that was all brought to the surface again when Rebecca left him at the end of the first book. I really rooted for him throughout this story, as I began to see the cracks that he’d tried to hide splinter now that he’d lost the only thing in the world that had kept him fighting.

Seeing Rebecca’s development in this story, made all the pain and heartbreak worth it. I did worry that Rebecca was broken beyond repair at the end of the first book, even as I held out hope that she would return to Daniel and the love they shared, but this book really showed the inner strength she had, and I really admired her for finally putting herself first and starting her journey of self discovery where she began to accept her past, and look forward to a brighter future. To see the toll that her absence from Daniel’s life had on not only him, but also her was just heartbreaking, and I wept throughout the scenes where we began to see the two of them doubt a future between them was every possible.

Even though Daniel was still Rebecca’s rescuer in this novel, in many different ways, it was wonderful to see Rebecca become her own saviour, and to in turn become the stronger and healthier one of the two, something so different to the way they were in the first book.

Hearing of some of the things that Rebecca went through in ‘Where Life Takes You’ unknown to the reader just broke my heart, and it really made it clear to me why she felt she had to leave Daniel, giving me the closure I needed after heart-wrenching ending to Book One.

In addition, I felt that the authors writing style was a lot more fluid than in the previous book, and details of the story flowed better, as I remember commenting in my review of ‘Where Life Takes You’ on how certain aspects of the first book seemed contradictory to what had been mentioned in previous chapters, which is why I rated it 4 over 5 stars. In ‘Next to You’, the whole novel flowed beautifully, and I never once felt that the plot or pasts of the characters were jumping in different directions.

This was an absolutely stunning, heartbreaking and beautiful conclusion to the ‘Life’ series, and this is one that will definitely stay with me for many years.
The next book to Where Life Takes You. It starts where the last book ended. Becca's struggles aren't done! How much can a woman take? But as usual, Dan and her other "family" members are always there for her.

She sets out on her own "finding myself" retreat, to finally get a grip on her problems. You'd think that after, everything would be sort of back to normal. NOT! Yet another obstacle awaits Becca! Can Dan save her this time?

I enjoyed reading this, but I am left wondering about the other characters. I want more of them too!
